Bail plea accepted, LHC orders Ayyan Ali's release

Ayyan was arrested at Islamabad airport attempting to board a flight to Dubai with $500,000 cash.

LAHORE (Web Desk / agencies) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has accepted supermodel Ayyan Ali`s bail plea in the currency smuggling case today (Tuesday), Dunya News reported.

A two-member bench of the LHC suspended the judicial remand and ordered immediate release of the accused. 

Ayyan Ali has been languishing in Central Jail Adiala for attempting to smuggle over $500,000 out of the country.  Pakistani law bars any passenger from carrying over $10,000.

Talking to media, defense lawyer Latif Khosa said the Lahore High Court granted bail to Ali after hearing arguments from both sides.

He said they had started the paperwork for the release of Ali.

The lawyer had earlier told the court that the money came from a legitimate property sale and the model had no intention of taking it out of the country.

He said that she had yet to check into her flight was waiting in the lounge for her brother who was was going to take the cash to Karachi.

It was unclear when the model would be freed but usually lawyers take one to two days to complete paperwork to get their clients released.
