K-Electric is defaulter of NTDC, PSO and other federal institutions

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) finding committee has declared electricity shortage as one of the main reasons of casualties in Karachi. On the other hand, in a reply to Supreme Court (SC) Federal government has said that NEPRA is not performing up to par despite possessing capabilities, reported Dunya News.

NEPRA’s 4-man fact finding committee has completed its report on electricity shortage in Karachi. According to report, officials have printed the facts regarding demand and production of electricity correctly. K-Electric is not producing electricity according to demand.

The report said that electricity is absent for up to 8 hours in the city while incompetency of K-Electric has caused masses to face load shedding adding that casualties could have been reduced had it not been for electricity shortage.

The fact finding commission will present its report to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chairman NEPRA.

The reply to SC states that K-Electric’s demand is 2500 Megawatt (MW) while it has capability to produce 2710 MW.

National Transmission & Dispatch Company (NTDC) also provides up to 650 MW.

K-Electric is also defaulter of NTDC, PSO and federal institutions worth billions of rupees.

According to an agreement signed with K-Electric, federal government cannot interfere in its matters. A new agreement with K-Electric is need of the hour but federal government is reluctant to make one for quite some time.
