Karachi: 5 officers arrested on land grabbing, china cutting charges
Total cost of the grabbed land amounted to 4 billion 500 million rupees
KARACHI (Dunya News) – 5 officers were arrested on Monday on the charges of land grabbing and china cutting. Sindh Rangers conducted a raid on Sindh Building Control Authority and took custody of records on identification by suspects, reported Dunya News.
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has started investigation into land grabbing and china cutting in Karachi as 5 officers of Lyari Development Authority, Lines Area and Redevelopment project have been arrested.
The arrested suspects include Naseem Fareed, Atta Abbas, Rashid Hussain, Wasim Iqbal and Shahid Umar.
The arrested officers grabbed 1,200 plots under the pretext of acquisition for Lines Area and Redevelopment project and later sold it to land mafia and builders without following due process.
The total cost of the grabbed land amounted to 4 billion 500 million rupees.
The accused used the amount acquired to build personal assets and in activities of terrorism.
The arrested officers have also named several other officers involved in such activities during interrogation.
Rangers and NAB officials raided Sindh Building Control Authority’s office on identification by suspects.
Inquires were also made about former DG Manzoor Qadir from the suspects.
