People unaware of basic knowledge of law discuss constitution on media: SC
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) heard the case against the 18th and 21st amendment on Wednesday. Chief Justice (CJ) Nasir-ul-Mulk lead the panel of judges hearing the case. Justice Saqib Nisar said that those people are giving legal arguments on media who do not have even the basic knowledge of constitution and law. CJ Nasir-ul-Mulk said that if they accept the basic structure of constitution then what would be the way to make amendments in it?
Plaintiff Hamid Khan stated that only constituent assembly can make amendments in the basic structure of the constitution. Justice Jawad S Khawaja said that there is always a way even in the situation of dead end. Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said that people give mandate of everything to every elected assembly.
Justice Ejaz Afzal remarked that the basic structure of constitution is in its preface and the preface of the constitution has been declared the part of constitution under the article 2-A. He said that constitution clearly says that no amendment or lawmaking against the preface of constitution is possible.
