PM inaugurates second unit of country's first solar power project

BAHAWALPUR (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday has inaugurated the second phase of country’s first solar power project. The first unit has been completed which will add at least 100 Mega Watt (MW) in the national grid.
According to the details, 132 kilovoltes (kV) transmission line has been stretched for the electricity supply. An advanced grid station has also been formed. The Punjab government has bore all the expenditures of the first solar project in the country. The project aims at adding at least 1,000 MW electricity to the national grid after completion.
Chinese president Xi Jinping had laid the foundation stone of the second phase of project during his historic visit in April. The PM had initiated the project in May 2014.
The first unit stretches across as many as 500 acres with a cost of at least Rs 15 billion.
The inaugural ceremony of the second phase is being attended by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif and Chinese ambassador along with other dignitaries.
