CM Punjab to provide scooties to female students, government employees

Project to be started on experimental basis from Lahore, then it will be extended to other districts

LAHORE (Dunya News) – After laptops and green cabs, government of Punjab has decided to provide scooties on easy installments to female students and employees of the Punjab government. The project will be started on experimental basis from Lahore and then it will be extended to the other districts. Punjab government started working on this project in March 2014 and made a committee to work on the project. A meeting of the committee working on the project was held in Lahore on Thursday.

Bank of Punjab will provide easy loans for this project and to make it easy for students and employees, government will pay the interest money of the loan. Women and girls will be trained before providing them with the scooties. Government of Punjab also gave a special task to UET and the transport department to design the scooties in a way that only women could use it.

Minister of Women Development Punjab chaired the meeting of the committee. Members or provincial assembly and officials of the Bank of Punjab, finance transport departments participated in the meeting. It was decided in the meeting to allocate funds for the project from the annual development fund for the next fiscal year.

A technical committee was also created consisting on member of provincial assembly Madiha Rana and representatives of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and the Transport Department. The committee is to present their recommendations on the design and manufacturing of the scooties.

According to the sources, government first asked two manufacturing companies of Japan to bid their offers who agreed to provide scooties on a price of 2 to 2.5 lac, but afterwards a Chinese company was contacted which will provide 50 cc scooties on the rate of 80 thousand.
