The court has directed accused in Mumbai attacks case to deposit Rs20 lacs in surety bonds.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday dismissed the detention orders of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and ordered his release, Dunya News reported.

According to details, the hearing was presided over by Justice Anwarul Haq.

During the hearing, the petitioner adopted the stance that Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered the release of Lakhvi after declaring his detention as null and void however; Interior Ministry of Punjab confined him again after issuing notice which is synonymous to contempt of court and against law.

The petitioner also said that no reliable proof has been provided to the court regarding the case.

The government prosecutor while submitting a written reply in the court said that he cannot give any statement regarding the case in open court therefore; all is said in the submitted reply.

The court after hearing all the arguments ordered immediate release of Lakhvi and directed to deposit Rs20 lacs in surety bonds.

Lakhvi along with Zarar Shah was allegedly the key planner of the 2008 Mumbai attacks that killed 166 people and has been under detention for over five years over allegations.

He is among the seven persons charged with planning and helping carry out the attacks. The six other men facing trial in Adiala Jail for their alleged involvement in Mumbai attacks are Hammad Amin Sadiq, Shahid Jamil Riaz, Younas Anjum, Jamil Ahmed, Mazhar Iqbal and Abdul Majid.
