Medical test under consideration for determining Shafqat Hussain's age
Dunya News succeeds in its efforts, Interior Ministry sources claim medical test being considered
ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Medical test is being considered by the Ministry of Interior to determine Shafqat Hussain’s age. Campaign by Dunya News for determining the exact age of Shafqat Hussain finally bore fruit as medical test for determining the age of convicted Shafqat Hussain is being considered by the Interior Ministry.
According to the details, some human rights organizations had claimed that Shafqat Hussain was a minor at the time of his conviction and therefore deserved leniency. Government of Pakistan had decided to postpone his execution in the wake of the campaign by these organizations. The organizations claimed that Shafqat was 13 at the time of his conviction while the official version said he was 23.
However, Dunya News sources now claim that his medical test may be ordered by the Interior Ministry within next 48 hours. After the orders, Shafqat Hussain will be presented before a medical board at Services Hospital where his bones and teeth tests will be conducted to determine his age.
Sources in Health Department told Dunya News that the bone and teeth tests make it easier to determine one’s age.
Shafqat Hussain had been convicted for kidnapping a 7-year-old and murdering him later. He was sentenced to be hanged till death and his execution was due to take place on March 19, 2015. But after dispute on his age surfaced, his execution was postponed for 30 days.
