18th amendment: SC adjourns hearing till June 28

The Supreme Court adjourned hearing of the identical petitions against some clauses of the 18th amendment, with a particular focus method of judges appointment till June 28 on Thursday. A 17-member larger bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, is hearing the petitions. Today, Hamid Khan, advocate of the Supreme Court Bar Association would conclude his arguments. During the course of hearing, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry remarked that Charter of Democracy (CoD) is a political document, and added that the court has to take up the 18th amendment in light of the constitution and law. He observed that around 14 parties have their representatives in the constitutional committee formed for the said amendment; however the CoD was between two parties only.
