Victims of Youhanabad blasts laid to rest

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Victims of Youhanabad tragedy have been laid to rest as their last rites offered at St. Jones Girls High School in Lahore today (Tuesday), Dunya News reported.

At least 17 people were killed when Taliban bombers attacked two churches in the city on Sunday.

Ferozepur Road has been blocked for Chungi Amar Sadhu to Kahna due to security reasons while security has been beefed up in Youhanabad neighbourhood of the eastern city.

A contingent of eighty Rangers personnel has arrived in Youhanabad whereas five thousand policemen have been deployed around the area, DIG Operations Haider Ashraf said.

Earlier on Monday, police fired tear gas on Christian protesters when they blocked a major highway in Lahore and forced public transport services to shut down.

They later pelted police with stones and smashed police cars.

Lahore`s Police Deputy Inspector General Haider Ashraf said his officers were ‘‘showing restraint’’ but had to fire tear gas canisters when the situation deteriorated.

Commissioner Abdullah Sumbal Khan said paramilitary troops had been called in to restore order.

Police have also registered cases against 24 miscreants.
