IHC orders release of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi

Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi has been in Rawalpindi jail since 2009.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, is likely to be released from jail after the Islamabad High Court on Friday ruled that his detention was illegal.
The high court has said that Lakhvi cannot be kept in prison anymore and ordered his release.
The accused was re-arrested in a kidnapping case in December hours after the IHC suspended his detention and ordered his conditional release from jail.
Lakhvi has, since 2009, been in a jail in Rawalpindi, adjacent to the capital of Islamabad. The court said that it did not have evidence to prove Lakhvi s involvement in 2008 attack in Mumbai, in which 166 people were killed.
Lakhvi is one of seven people on trial in Pakistan for the siege of Mumbai.
Indian investigators had submitted voice samples and other evidence accusing that Lakhvi was talking on satellite phones to the 10 terrorists who sailed into Mumbai and attacked its most famous landmarks.
