NADRA hands out Pakisani citizenship to over 70000 foreigners
These nationals belonged to Iraq, Tanzania, Sudan and Bangladesh
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -- Headed by Senator Talha Mehmood, Standing Committee for Interior Affairs’ meeting where the citizenship of Sherbat Khan -- the Afghan girl who became the face of Afghan war -- was still a topic of discussion, the Chairman of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) Usman Mubeen further highlighted the woes of the organization when it came to light that up to 70,000 foreign nationals had been issued citizenship as well.
Elaborating the charge sheet against NADRA, Chairman said that 70,161 citizens of different countries had been issued identity cards.
These nationals belonged to Iraq, Tanzania, Sudan and Bangladesh. Chairman said that 200 fake cards had been issued for one lakh rupees each.
Action against 372 persons has been taken in this regard.
The debate on the issuance of the cards had not waned when Senator Najam Hameed raised the issue of carjacking of 5 of his vehicles right outside his home.
The Senator said that Secretary for Interior Ministry, Auranzeb also had his car stolen outside his home. Chairman Committee jokingly replied that the Senator should buy another car, wait for the perpetrators to commit the mistake again and catch them red-handed.
The committee sought to retrieve records for all the NADRA employees that have taken out a loan.
