US Congress demands to halt aid to Pakistan over Afridi's issue
Pakistan has slapped America in the face by not handing over Afridi, says Dana Rohrabacher.
WASHINGTON (Dunya News) – US Congress on Thursday berated their administration for extending the aid worth $50 million to Pakistan despite its reluctance to release Dr. Shakeel Afridi and have demanded to hold the aid back instead.
According to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) report, during a question answer session with US Foreign Minister John Kerry, a lawmaker from California Dana Rohrabacher said the person who aided US in capturing Usama Bin Laden was held at a prison in Pakistan and the administration was still considering to extend $50 million to that country. Pakistan has rebuffed America by not handing over Afridi, he added.
Kerry responded that he had raised the issue of Afridi’s release before Pakistan’s former President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif stating that his captivation was unjust.
He elaborated that solution to this issue was through diplomatic procedures informing that an aid worth $3 million allocated to Pakistan in the previous budget was conditioned to release Afridi.
