Pak Army launched operation in Khyber Agency to clear the area of militants.

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – Levies and Khasadar forces will perform their duties in Bara tehsil of Khyber tribal region from today (Thursday) as security forces have formally cleared most of the area of militants during ongoing Operation Khyber One, sources told.

According to local administration, preparations continue for the repatriation of around 100,000 displaced families while educational institutes in Bara will reopen in next few days.

An official said the authority had planned to pay Rs25,000 cash assistance to each displaced family, while Rs8,000 would be paid as transport charges.

Tribal elders and peace committees will assist the administration to maintain peace in the area, sources told.

Situation in Bara remained tense since 2009 paralysing business activities and health facilities in the area. The army launched anti-terrorism operation in Khyber Agency in October, killing dozens of militants.

The pace of operation has picked up since Tehreek-e-Taliban suicide attackers killed 131 school children, nine teachers and a soldier at a military-run high school in the northwestern city of Peshawar on December 16.
