Petition seeking treason case against Sheikh Rasheed filed in LHC

Petitioner accuses Sheikh Rasheed of delivering provocative speeches against the state.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Petitioner’s lawyer Asad Manzoor Butt, during the case hearing commenced by Justice Shehzada Mazhar at the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday requested the court to file treason case against Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad.

He accused Sheikh Rasheed of delivering provocative speeches against the state at the rallies which is falls under the premise of treachery; the court should therefore order to file treason case against him.

LHC forwarded the petition to full bench for further hearing.

Earlier, the government on November 14 expressed its intention to take action against Sheikh Rasheed’s inflammatory speech that he made during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) rally in Nankana Sahib. The government believes Sheikh Rasheed’s comments incited violence.

According to the government sources, Sheikh Rasheed incited the public against government and state institutions by sparking ‘hatred’.

Meanwhile, Special Anti-Terrorism Court termed PTI chief Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri proclaimed offenders for not appearing before court.

The arrest warrants against Khan, Qadri among other prominent leaders from both the parties had already been issued.
