Strict security measures in place for Ashura
Security personnel scanned and sealed the areas along the procession route.
LAHORE (Web Desk) - Elaborate security arrangements have been made as Ashura is being observed across the country Tuesday, with cellphone services partially suspended and pillion riding banned, Dunya News reported.
In Karachi, main procession route has been sealed with shipping containers while 18,000 policemen including sniper shooters have been deployed to avert any untoward incident.
More than 350 CCTV cameras have been installed for round-the-clock surveillance. Mobile services will remain suspended from 6:00am to 10:00pm tonight.
Strict security measures have been adopted in Rawalpindi and Islamabad as well. Mobile phone services in Rawalpindi have been partially suspended.
In Lahore, more than 10,000 policemen have been deployed for the main procession. The procession is being monitored with CCTV and drone cameras.
Four districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been declared highly sensitive where Rangers and FC personnel have been deployed.
In Quetta, markets and shops have been sealed where the main Muharram procession will pass through. More than five thousand police and Balochistan Constabulary personnel have been deployed in different areas.
Security has been put on high alert in Muzaffarabad and other cities in Azad Kashmir.
