Peshawar: 8 killed in multiple blasts outside US consulate
At least eight people including five security personals were killed in three loud explosions outside the US consulate in Peshawar at Hayatabad Avenue in Peshawar on Monday.A gun battle between police and the attackers followed which resulted in deaths of six attackers.Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attacks.The first blast took place at Saddar, Peshawar, which was ensued by some mild blasts and rockets were also fired.The series of these three blasts occurred within 20 minutes and shook the city followed by extreme firing. The second and third blasts occurred in vehicles.According to reports, the front part of US Consulate building got damaged, which could be the target, while firing ensued the incident.The Army personnel cordoned off the area and take their positions as firing continued. Rescue teams rushed the site and shifted the injured to the nearby hospitals. Emergency has been declared in Peshawar Hospitals. The explosions shattered the windowpanes of the nearby houses while the smoke clouds engulfed the whole area.President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday strongly condemned the series of blasts in Peshawar that caused heavy damage to lives and property.President Zardari in a message said the government would not be deterred by such acts of violence and will fight the terrorists till their complete elimination.Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani on Monday strongly condemned a series of blasts in Peshawar and reiterated that such incidents would not deter the governments resolve to fight terrorism.
