KU reopens after three days of mourning
The academic activities at KU were suspended to mourn assassination of Dr Shakil Auj.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Karachi University (KU) re-opened on Monday after remaining closed for three days following the murder of Dean of Islamic Studies at the University of Karachi Professor Dr Shakil Auj, Dunya News reported.
A large number of KU students and teachers took to streets protesting against the killing of Dr Shakil Auj and demanded immediate arrest of the killers. As a result, the academic activities were suspended to mourn assassination of Dr Auj.
The university had canceled classes for three days since the killing of Dr Auj on Thursday. The faculty of KU had announced three days of mourning, therefore the classes and other activities at the campus were called off. The examinations that were going to be held during the last three days were also postponed.
Teachers and students have returned to campus on Monday to begin with the classes. The delayed examination would also be rescheduled.
Dr Mohammad Shakol Auj was a professor and dean at Karachi University s faculty of Islamic Studies. He was also an author and used to edit Al-Tafseer, an HEC recognized research journal on Islamic Studies.
He has been affiliated with KU for 19 years and was appointed as Head of the Islamic Studies department in 2012. According to the information on university s website, Dr Auj has written 15 books. Unknown gunmen shot and killed Dr Shakil Auj in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Karachi on Thursday.
