LAHORE (Web Desk) – A petition was filed in the Supreme Court’s Lahore Registry on Saturday, seeking Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar’s disqualification under article 62 and 63 of the Constitution, Dunya News reported.

The petition was filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Gohar Sindhu.

He stated in the plea that single bench and two member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) had rejected petitions seeking Prime Minister and Interior Minister’s disqualification, whereas, both have lied to the parliament regarding army’s role as a mediator.

Nawaz Sharif and Ch Nisar do not fulfill requirements of article 62 and 63 of the Constitution because they have mislead the nation, he added.

Gohar Sindhu said both have violated their oath, thus, court should nullify LHC’s verdict and disqualify both of them.

It may be mentioned here that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar both told parliament that the army had stepped in to end poltical standoff between government and protestors at the behest of Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul Qadr Qadri - a claim that denied by both Imran and Qadri.

Afterwards, army had issued a clarification stating that the government had requested Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif to play role as a mediator to end political crisis.
