4th death anniversary of Dr Imran Farooq today
The 4th death anniversary of MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq is being observed today.
KARACHI (Dunya News) - The 4th death anniversary of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) senior leader Dr Imran Farooq is being observed today.
Imran Farooq was born in Karachi on June 14, 1960. Imran Farooq was a physician by education. He graduated from Sindh Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan with an MBBS degree in 1985.
He was also a founding member of the All Pakistan Muhajir Student Organization (APMSO) in 1978. When in 1984, the APMSO gave birth to the Mohajir Quami Movement, Farooq served as its first Secretary General and Convener.
In 1988 and 1990, he was elected to the Pakistan National Assembly and became the Parliamentary Leader of the MQM. Dr Imran went into hiding when operation clean-up was launched in Karachi. He escaped from Pakistan in 1999 and sought political asylum in the United Kingdom.
Imran Farooq was found murdered near his home in North London on 16 September 2010. The murder took place at 5:30 p.m. GMT as Farooq was returning home after finishing work at a local pharmacy.
