Few thousands cannot demand elected Chief Minister's resignation under the constitution

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has denied the rumours about his resignation or showing willingness to tender resignation.

Talking to media, CM Punjab said that he was an elected Chief Minister and a few thousand people, protesting on roads, did not have the mandate to ask for his resignation.

CM Shahbaz alleged Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chief Dr. Tahirul Qadri of attempting to derail democracy.

Earlier, there were rumours circulating on media that the CM Punjab had agreed to tender his resignation. Chief Minister Punjab denied the news saying his resignation was out of question.

CM Punjab also told that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will announce his strategy for the political resolution of the situation after arriving in Islamabad. He said that Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar was like a brother to him. He said that only PM Nawaz had the authority to decide about the negotiations.

CM said that people cannot be fooled by such protests and allegations. He said that the people of Pakistan were well aware of the nefarious objectives of the agitators.

Shahbaz Sharif advised Imran Khan to negotiate with the government. He said that Imran still had the time to come back to the path of democracy. “Imran Khan should reconsider his protest”, said the CM. “He has tried the politics of agitation, he should now try the path of democracy”, CM Punjab added.
