Musharraf 'solely' responsible for Nov 3 emergency: FIA report

A three-member bench of special court heard the treason case against Musharraf.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has submitted its report in court over high treason case against ex-military ruler Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday.
The report stated that Musharraf was solely responsible for the emergency imposed on November 3, 2007.
A three-member bench of special court heard the case pertaining to the treason allegations levelled against the former president.
A 237-page report was submitted by the prosecutor that had various relevant documents on 125 pages. These documents were earlier collected by the government. A statement of 24 witnesses was also included in the report that was spread onto 94 pages.
The report stated that no cabinet meeting was held on November 02, 2007.
During the course of proceedings, the prosecutor Akram Sheikh said that Musharraf was also contacted for his statement. However, the staff said he was having temperature. Sheikh said Musharraf deliberately didn’t get his statement recorded.
According to report, the inquiry team feared that Musharraf may leave Pakistan and contacted interior ministry to put his name on Exit Control List (ECL).
Meanwhile, no record was recovered from defense ministry and GHQ over Nov 3 emergency.
Furthermore, Musharraf gave the orders of emergency as army chief. The then Punjab governor Khalid Maqbol refuted the reports that the emergency was imposed after consultation with the PM and other government officials.
Prosecutor Akram Sheikh requested the court to summon all those whose statements were recorded.
The court said that the complainant in this case was interior secretary and ordered him to appear in person during next hearing.
The case hearing was adjourned till May 22.
