Railway Minister rules out terrorism in Karakoram Express derailment

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has denied that terrorism was behind derailment of Karakoram Express train in Nawabshah that has left three people dead, Dunya News reported on Wednesday.

He said an inquiry has been ordered in the incident and action will be taken against the responsible.

The Railway Minister has sought report over the incident within 72 hours.

He said relief operation is likely to complete in three hours whereas alternate train has been sent to facilitate the passengers of ill-fated train.

The minister has announced Rs0.5 million compensation for the heirs of deceased and Rs 100,000 for the injured.

According to reports, three people including a woman were killed and 20 others got injured when Karakoram Express train derailed near Nawabshah district, district in the country’s south Sindh province.

The train was on its way from eastern Faisalabad city to southern port city of Karachi.

Railway traffic was halted in the area following the accident and rescue teams shifted the injured people including three women to a nearby hospital.

Hospital sources confirmed that they have received 20 injured people and at least two of them are in critical condition.
