Musharraf says 'not solely responsible for Nov 2007 emergency'

The former president faces treason charges for imposing emergency in 2007.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Former president Pervez Musharraf submitted a petition in the special court to proceed against 269 people, who were involved in the imposition of November 3, 2007 emergency, Dunya News reported.

Musharraf prayed to court that he was not solely responsible for the act.

He said the then premier, governor, chief ministers, home secretaries, chief secretary, cabinet members and concerned departments supported the move.

The former military ruler requested court to take action against those individuals as well.

Musharraf also asked the court to initiate proceedings against PCO judges.

This is the first time in Pakistan's 66-year history that a former military ruler is facing trial for treason. If convicted, 70-year-old Musharraf could face life imprisonment or the death penalty.

The former President faces treason charges for suspending, subverting and abrogating the Constitution, imposing an emergency in November 2007 and detaining judges of superior courts.
