State, Constitution witness in Musharraf's case: PM Nawaz
Court will decide Musharraf's fate, says Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said the state and its constitution are witness against former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in the treason case.
In an exclusive interview with Dunya News' Lahore bureau chief, the Prime Minister stated that court has to decide whether the Constitution of Pakistan was violated with Musharraf’s November 3 action or not.
If the law is equal for everyone then everyone is answerable to the courts, he added.
PM Nawaz said it is court’s duty to prove someone guilty or innocent.
TREASON CASE
Former president Pervez Musharraf stands accused over his imposition of emergency rule in November 2007.
The former commando's lawyers have dismissed the charges as an attempt by the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, whom Musharraf ousted in a coup in 1999, to settle old scores through the courts.
Conviction in the case could mean the death penalty or life imprisonment for Musharraf, who has faced a series of criminal cases since returning from self-imposed exile in March, 2013.
