PIA being sold at random: CJP

Chairman and Managing Director of the national airlines should be Pakistanis, SC said.
ISLAMABAD (Duna News) - Supreme Court has said that the PIA is being sold at random. The names of bidders have been written on walls. The real question is that what is worth the assets owned by the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
SC bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of case regarding irregularities in the PIA and while passing his remarks said that Managing Director and Chairman of the national institution should not only competent but also Pakistanis.
He maintained that acting chairman Asif Yasin was removed on the direction of the court and once again, he has been appointed on the same office.
The Attorney General told the court that Asif Yasin is not acting chairman; rather he has been delegated responsibilities to look after important affairs.
The counsel for the PIA told the court that foreigners also have applied for Chairman and Managing Directors of the PIA. Civil Aviation has sought law point from the ministry of law which has not opined till now.
Chief Justice passing his remarks said that the court has shown no leniency towards parliamentarians who are enjoying dual nationality.
Justice Jawad S Khawaj consulted who is handling important affairs of the organization. Upon this, the counsel replied that acting bodies are handling such issues.
The PIA’s counsel also told the court that the institution has received 24 applications for chairman and 265 for Managing Director. Departmental procedure for selection of chairman and MD is underway.
