Target killings: protest rallies held in Karachi, Hub
Lyari inhabitants staged rally from Lyari to press club against target killings in Karachi, Rangers operation in Lyari and statement of Rehman Malik. Police threw shells at the participants of rally. Last night after a meeting between PPP and MQM at Governor House, Rehman Malik termed the target killings a gang war. After which, Lyari residents strongly protested his statement. Hundreds of demonstrators reached near press club from different areas. Police threw tear-shells at the protestors at I.I. Chundrigar road. Retaliating, the protestors threw stones at police. Due to which, the situation turned violent. The traffic was jammed. Police arrested some protestors but released afterwards. On the other hand, shutter down and wheel-jam strike was observed in Hub against the target killings in Karachi. Violent protestors blocked the Karachi-Balochistan traffic. On the call of BNP Mangal, BSF and BSO Azad, hundreds of people held sit-in at Nadi Pul. The demonstrators burnt the tyre and blocked the roads while complete shutter down strike was observed in Hub city.
