Karachi case: SC rejects Sindh IG, Chief Secy report

Dunya News

Chief Justice says federal and provincial governments are responsible for anarchy in Karachi.

KARACHI (Dunya News) Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry resumed hearing of Karachi law and order case. Five-member bench comprising Justice Jawad S Khawaja, Justice Gulzar Ahmad, Justice Ather Said and Justice Azmat Saeed headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry while expressing their non-satisfaction rejected the report submitted by ex officers.

IG Sindh and Chief Secretary appeared before the court and submitted their justification in writing regarding efforts made for restoration of peace and tranquility in the city but the bench rejected their justification.

Passing his remarks, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that real motif behind chaotic condition in Karachi is personal interests of political parties and pressure groups who have taken hostages to the people in the name of so-called politics.

“Civil administration had claimed that ‘no go areas’ had been removed from the city but now they are of the view that ‘no go areas’ still exist in the metropolis.”

Chief Justice contended that federal as well as provincial governments are responsible for killings and undue assassinations of innocent people who are being targeted without any moral or legal justification.

The bench also reprimanded the Chief Secretary for expressing sense of criminal negligence as he did not take pain to write down a letter to the federal government in this regard.

Chief Justice said that narcotics, sophisticated weapons and black money are being imported by Karachi port without any check.

Sindh Inspector General Police and Chief Secretary also submitted their report regarding law and order situation which was rejected by the court.

Chief Justice said that the report submitted by IG and Chief Secretary might be accepted if they guarantee that no casualty would occur next.
