Flooding in River Chenab inundates hundreds of villages

At least 50 villages of Chinot have been cut off with the urban areas due to onrush of flood.


LAHORE (Dunya News) - Water level at Head Tarimo in Chenab river continuously increasing, as water flow surged by three thousand cusecs submerging several villages of district Jhang.

 

River Chenab’s flash flood passing through Chinot has started reaching Tarimo Headworks, where presently low flood recoded. Jhang-Sargodha Road near Pakaywala has been closed for traffic due to flooding water, while rescue operation continued overnight for taking out over 50 persons trapped in the flooded village Lohaywala.

 

Muridke-Narowal road, which was washed out in flash flood in Tehsil Muridke here, has by now been temporarily restored.
Several villages were inundated by flood in Nullah Dek, while the contingents of Pak army have also arrived for relief and rescue work.

 

Nullah Dek flooded water hitting vast area of Pusroor and Narowal now also wreaking havoc in Sheikhupura and Gujranawala, standing crops swept away, graveyards submerged and mosques hit in the villages, while the people with their livestock have been forced to leave their hearths and homes.

 

On the other hand, while plugging the breach in Nullah Dek, fibre optic was damaged that left the communication system completely cut off from Narang Mandi to other parts of the country, which by now has been restored.

 

Government rescue teams were seen busy in rescue work for the whole day in flood- affected areas by shifting people to safe places, while Army soldiers have also arrived to help the hapless peasants in the inundated villages.

 

Flash floods have devastated crops worth millions and has made the poor peasants lives more miserable, as they fear that their mud/bricks houses might collapse in the onrush of flood water.

 

Meanwhile, at least 50 villages of Chinot have been cut off with the urban areas due to onrush of flood, while the standing crops in Shorkot suburban areas have been severely damaged by flash flood. Nine villages near Multan also were inundated as water lever in river Chenab mounted.

 

On the other hand, thousands of acres of cultivated land in 72 villages of Hafizabad and Qadirabad have been badly hit by Chenab river flash flood. Even on the fourth day Sialkot remains flooded by overflowing water, while several villages of Narowal and Pusroor remained marooned by Nullah Dek overflowed water.

 

Although by now thousands of people have been severely hit by flash floods, but the government still remains apathetic to this woeful situation, as no relief measure thus far was seen taken.

 

Eleven villages have also submerged as water level at Taunsa in river Indus went up. In Rajanpur, four union councils were inundated by overflowing Nullah Kaha and Chachar, while due to river Indus changing course near Jampur, water gushing into nearby villages.
