Breach in Nullah Dek destroys crops, inundates villages

At least 84 people across Pakistan have been killed in floods over the past week, says NDMA.

 

ROJHAN (Online) - Due to an increase in the water level of Nullah Dek, 45 villages drowned while standing crops on hundreds of acres of land were destroyed.  

 

A young boy drowned in the faster flow of floodwater of flooded Nullah Dek and 2 children injured when a wall of a house collapsed in village Gadyala Garbi in Tehsil sambrial.

 

According to reports, resident of village Gadala, Ali Raza, 16 slipped down and gushed into the faster flow of floodwater and drowned.

 

Meanwhile, dozens of mud houses were collapsed in Daska and Sambrial Tehsil. 10 villages of both Sambrial and Daska Tehsil were also inundated due to another spate in flooded Nullah Dek, as the floodwater splashed over the banks of flooded Nullah Dek near villages Gadyala garbi east and Gadyala garbi west, Kharoliyaan, Uchiyaan Kharoliyaan, Hamza Kharoliyaan, Dandpur, Motra and Jaamkey Cheema.

 

The standing crops of hundreds of acres of land were also inundated there, as more than four to five feet high floodwater also playing havoc in these villages.

 

Villagers said there were no rescue activities and not Civil Defence and Rescue 1122 workers works in the flood hit areas in sambrial and Daska .A peak of 13,500 cusecs water reached here from India thus the nullah overflowed near village Chahoor-Pasrur and inundated around 47 villages of Pasrur, Zafarwal, Qila Ahmedabad and surrounding areas.

 

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), at least 84 people across Pakistan have been killed in floods triggered by Monsoon rains over the past week. Flood waters and rain have destroyed over 2,533 houses and the lives of more than 80,000 people have been affected.
