Five killed in suicide blast at checkpost in Peshawar

Five persons were killed and several others injured as the suicide attackers hit a checkpost near PIA building in Sadar area of Peshawar, Dunya News reported on Thursday.The suicide bomber blew himself at the checkpost when he was intercepted by the police.The law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area immediately after the incident whereas the rescue efforts were kicked off. The injured were being shifted to Lady Reading and CMH hospitals where many are pronounced to be in a critical condition and rise in the toll is also feared.Meanwhile, NWFP senior minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour confirmed to media that it was a suicide attack. Bilour said that the foreign elements wanted to destabilize the country and added that if the need arises Army would be called in Peshawar. While talking to Dunya News, NWFP Information Minister Mian Ifthkhar Hussain said that the government is making efforts to eliminate terrorism as per its resources. Mentioning the worsening security situation in Peshawar, the minister expressed the fear that the terrorists could also target the Muharram processions.
