Taxi driver killing: Eye-witness identifies Rangers personnel
The accused have been sent to jail till July 31.
KARACHi (Dunya News) - An eye witness in the taxi driver s killing case identified on Saturday the four accused Rangers personnel, including Ghulam Rasool, as the alleged killers.
The eyewitness Muhammad Sadiq identified the accused during a hearing in Judicial Magistrate Erum Jahangir s court in Karachi.
The eyewitness told court that he had seen Rangers official Ghulam Rasool shooting the taxi driver. He said that he owned a shop near the crime scene and was present at his shop when the incident took place.
Later, the accused were sent to jail till July 31.
On July 9, the taxi driver identified as Murid Abbas was shot dead in Karachi s Gulistan-i-Jauhar locality when he allegedly failed to stop his vehicle upon being signaled to do so by Rangers personnel.
Reports said the driver was killed on the spot, in front of his son who he had reportedly been driving to hospital.
Four Rangers officials are in police custody in connection with the extra-judicial case. Ghulam Rasool, is the main accused in the incident.
Rangers troops patrol Karachi and its surroundings to combat routine ethnic, political and extremist violence in the city.
Human rights activists complain that the Rangers force, established for combat and border duty, is neither equipped nor trained for civilian areas.
