Pakistan facilitated US-Taliban talks: FO

Spokesman says Pakistan played role in bringing Taliban and US closer.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan appreciated peace talks between United States and Taliban and valued the acceptance of Pakistani recommendations by both stake holders of peace process.
Talking to media in weekly news briefing, spokesman of Foreign Office (FO), Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said that Pakistan has played role in bringing Taliban and the US closer to each other.
He said that Minster of State for Petroleum had left for Japan with two bodies of Japanese tourists who were killed in Diamar tragedy.
Prime Minster Muhammad Nawaz Sharif would go to China on state visit in the first week of July, adding task force of the PM has visited China and Thailand before this, Chaudhry added.
“Final statement regarding visit of Britain premier to Pakistan would not be given”, he mentioned.
Talking about Pakistani expatriates in Saudi Arabia, spokesman of foreign office said Pakistan has requested Saudi officials to extend the deadline regarding expulsion of Pakistani emigrants.
Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry reiterated that Pakistan and Afghanistan are in close contact with each other that is why Nawaz Sharif telephoned Afghan president after meeting with James Dobbins and informed him about the issues related to peace process of Afghanistan, he added.
Talking about investigations of Dr Imran Farooq murder case in London, he said that FO has not been formally contacted till now.
Replying a query, he said that he can’t say anything about presence of extremist organizations in Northern areas.
Chaudhry refrained from commenting upon the visit of Director General Inter Services Intelligence to America.
Commenting upon MFN status of India, spokesman of FO said that the present government wants better trade relationship with India, past government had some problems in granting MFN status to India but it would be awarded by the consent of all stake holders, he mentioned.
Pakistan embassy in Saudi Arabia is trying best to facilitate expatriates there and trying to provide required documents to all those who don’t have, he added.
