Nawaz Sharif called a meeting of the party leaders in Raiwind today (Monday).

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Nawaz Sharif, who is all set to become the prime minister of Pakistan as his party emerges a big winner in the elections, has called a meeting of his party leaders in which government formation is expected to be discussed.

Nawaz Sharif, who heads Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), called a meeting of the party leaders in Raiwind as unofficial results predicted a majority for his party.

The meeting is expected to discuss questions pertaining to government formation and the possibility of striking alliances with other political parties.

Talking to media, PML-N leader Khwaja Saad Rafique said that it was premature to talk about the possible alliance without getting complete results.

“There may be no need to form an alliance,” he said.

Nawaz Sharif has been prime minister twice — in 1990 and 1997. But both of his governments were dismissed, once by then president Ghulam Ishaq Khan and then in 1999 in a military coup by former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.

So far, the PML-N has bagged 125 seats, 27 went to the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI), 32 to thePakistan Peoples Party (PPP), 29 to independent candidates, 16 to MQM, 9 to JuI-F, 3 to Jamat-e-Islami, 3 to Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and 2 to PML-Q to others.

It may take hours for the Election Commission of Pakistan to announce the final results as the counting of votes is continuing.

However, judging by the PML-N s share of the 125 seats for which results have so far been unofficially declared, it is set to win the National Assembly elections.

The National Assembly has a total of 342 seats, and the four provincial assemblies together have 728 seats. Elections were held to 272 of the National Assembly seats. Sixty seats have been resrved for women and ten for non-Muslims.
