Constitutes inquiry team, announces compensation and rebuilding to the destroyed houses.
LAHORE: Addressing a press conference after a high-level meeting on Saturday, Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif condemned the torching of homes of Christians after allegations of blasphemy against a person.
He said a committee of two senior police official had been set to investigate the incident.
Government will provide Rs 200,000 to the victims as compensation for the damages, he said.
He said DSP and SHO of the area had been suspended and a judicial commission would also be formed to ascertain punishment for the culprits.
“Instigators and perpetrators of the violent act will be brought to book after they are identified through video footages,” Shabaz said.
He said only court can take action if anybody violates the blasphemy law.
He also called upon media and civil society to condemn and discourage the elements who indulge in such acts of violence.
