ECP asks politicians to apply for electoral symbols
The ECP has sought applications from political parties regarding allotment of electoral symbols.
ISLAMABAD (Online): Election Commission of Pakistan has sought applications from political parties for the allotment of electoral symbols to be used in the forthcoming general elections, says a press release.
The political parties which have complied with the provisions of the Political Parties Order, 2002 and the Rules framed there under are invited to make applications for allocation of one of the symbols prescribed under Rule 9 of the Representation of the People (Conduct of Elections) Rules, 1977.
The political parties have been advised to file respective applications according to requirements of Article 5 of the Allocation of Symbols Order, 2002.
The applications should contain the following information, including the list of symbols applied for in order of preference, symbol if any allocated to the political party during the previous general elections, address of the head office, name of its President, Secretary General, office-bearers.
In addition, the application should also mention the numerical strength of the party’s members. Moreover, a copy of the constitution of the political party should also be attached with the application.
It should also note whether the political party has conducted the intra-party elections as required under Article 12 of the Political Parties Order, 2002 and whether the political party has submitted its due Consolidated Statements of Accounts audited by Chartered Account as required under Article 13 of the Political Parties Order, 2002.
It merits mentioning here that ECP will not entertain the incomplete applications or requests through fax.
The last date for submission of applications is March 15, 2013.
