A four-member Supreme Court bench will resume hearing of Karach law and order case today.

A larger four-member SC bench comprising Justices Jawwad S Khawaja, Khilji Arif Hussain, Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Amir Hani Muslim will resume hearing in the implementation of its suo motu notice of Karachi law and order

During previous hearing ECP’s lawyer told the bench that the commission’s delimitation job was hindered by the constitutional requirement of a pre-delimitation census.

Upon this Justice Khawaja remarked that the court knows what the constitution says – the ECP should do its job. He adding that census was the job of executive and the ECP was responsible for holding free and fair elections in the country.

Giving his remarks on report submitted by IG police on law and order situation in Karachi, Justice Khawaja remarked that it seemed as if the authorities concerned were not taking the matter seriously and the court was carrying out a meaningless drill. He said that the report did not mention that the people involved in terrorism had the support of political parties.
