Army to be deployed at polling stations: ECP
ECP on Thursday said that army would be deployed at sensitive polling stations.
ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Ishtiaque Ahmed said the army would be deployed at polling stations in Karachi and FATA along with sensitive areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
During a news conference following the ECP meeting, he said the new delimitation of constituencies in Karachi will be carried out in accordance with the orders of the Supreme Court. The verification of voters lists will be conducted with the assistance of the army and will take 65 days.
Ishtiaque said the door-to-door verification of voters in Karachi, where 8.6 million voters are presently registered, will take 65 days to complete and for this services of 18,000 government servants will be obtained.
Letters, in this connection, had been sent to the provincial election commissioner, defence secretary and corps headquarters, the Secretary CEC said.
He said that the work of the Election Commission will begin following the dissolution of the Parliament on completion of its five-year term on March 16.
