A meeting of National Judicial Policy Making Committee is underway in Islamabad.

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry reiterated that fair and transparent elections were the requirement of the constitution.

He was addressing the National Judicial Policy Making Committee (NJPMC) session in Islamabad.

The session is set to review the appointment of judicial officers as returning officers during elections.

Chief Justice said that every institution should review the plea for assistance if made by election commission.

He said he has sought few explanations from election commission after which the decision would be taken.

However, he said the working of judiciary was affected when it had taken part in elections in the past.
