President signs Drug Regulatory Authority Bill

President has signed Drug Regulatory Authority Bill to repeal fake medicines.
According to new bill, stern action would be taken against the druggist involved in preparation of fake and poor quality-medicines.
He signed the bill at a ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Monday afternoon.
Speaking on the occasion, President Asif Ali Zardari said that signing of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan Bill into law would ensure availability of safe and quality medical services to the people at affordable prices.
The President said the credit goes to the PPP to first promulgate the Drug Act 1976 and now the present Government has established for the first time the Authority in the country like other advance countries of the world.
He said the Authority will ensure protection of the interests of the people as well as that of the pharma industry.
He expressed satisfaction that the pharma industry has grown over the past decades.
The President said it is time to take the next step in the technology by broadening our base for research and development.
He said the industry should seek to boost exports through standardization and quality assurance. The label "Made in Pakistan must be the symbol of quality.
The President noted that unanimous adoption of the law was a sign of wisdom and maturity of the parliament‚ all political forces and the provincial governments.
After the President s signature‚ the establishment of Drug Regulatory Authority has been completed.
The new bill will protect rights of the patients.
