Transport fares slashed in Karachi

Transporters associations in Karachi have agreed to reduce fares of public transport buses.

The step has been taken following a considerable deduction in CNG prices last week.The decision came during a meeting between Sindh Transport Minister Akhtar Hussain Jadoon and representatives of transporters’ bodies at the ministers office at Sindh Secretariat on Thursday.The delegation of Karachi Transport Ittehad led by KTI chairman Irshad Hussain Bukhari also attended the meeting.The transporters agreed to reduce fares of intra-city buses and minibuses by Rs. 4 per seat and new fare will be Rs. 10, regardless minibuses run on diesel or CNG fuel.Besides, it was also decided that fares of intra-city coaches will be reduced by Rs. 2. The current fares of coaches of Rs 19 and Rs 20 have now been fixed at Rs. 17 and Rs. 18, respectively.Transport Minister Akhtar Hussain Jadoon, during the meeting, said the decision had been taken to provide relief to masses and fares were reduced following the consent of transporters.
