Dense fog has led to the closure of multiple motorway sections across Punjab, including areas in central and southern regions. Motorway Police have advised commuters to maintain safe driving
LAHORE (Dunya News) — Dense fog has gripped major national highways and motorways across Punjab, forcing authorities to close several sections to traffic and urging commuters to exercise extreme caution.
According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police Central Zone, visibility dropped sharply in several areas including Mian Channu, Chichawatni, Basti Malook, and Khanewal, bringing traffic to a standstill on affected stretches.
Heavy fog also prevailed in Bahawalpur, Ahmedpur East, Channi Goth, Taranda Muhammad Panah, and Zahir Pir, making travel risky during late-night and early-morning hours.
The spokesperson added that Rahim Yar Khan, Fareedabad, Karamabad, Muslim Chowk, and Kot Sabzal were also hit by thick fog, prompting temporary closures at different points to prevent accidents. Motorists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
With fog tightening its grip, the motorway police urged drivers to follow lane discipline, keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and use fog lights properly.
“Better safe than sorry,” the spokesperson said, stressing that a little patience can go a long way in preventing mishaps during low visibility.
Commuters were also reminded not to overspeed and to remain alert, as fog can turn a routine journey into a dangerous one in the blink of an eye.
Authorities emphasized that safety measures are being taken in the best interest of travelers, even if closures cause temporary inconvenience.
