NAB to file reference against former WAPDA Engineer

NAB has decided to file a reference in a case against former Senior Engineer of WAPDA.

The Executive Board of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) decided to file a reference in a case against Muhammad Hassan, former Senior Engineer WAPDA.The Executive Board meeting with Chairman NAB Admiral (Retd) Fasih Bokhari in chair noticed a case of accumulating assets beyond known sources of income, where the accused person was alleged to own four houses, three plots and an investment of Rs. 3.1 million in national saving schemes during his service from 1976 to 2003 acquired through corruption and corrupt practices.The Board approved to accept Voluntary Return (VR) of Rs 6 million from Shehzad Saleem Bhatti, former legal Advisor in OGRA. The accused has been involved in issuing of bogus/fake Sprint Energy CNG stations licenses during the tenure of former Chairman Tauqir Sadiq. The accused person has submitted a pay order in favour of Chairman NAB.The Board authorized an inquiry against Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani for misuse of authority, embezzlement in funds causing loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer.The accused Muhayyuddin Ahmad Wani misused his authority by occupying the house of his father-in-law as camp office and spent Rs 1.4 million on its renovation from government funds. He withdrew Rs 100 million illegally from his subordinate archive department. He is alleged to take commission from ‘Times and Space’ agency while giving business of Rs 150 million.The Board also decided to authorize Complaint Verification in a case against the officials of CDA where the accused persons were alleged for sale of precious commercial plots without open auction at throw-away prices in the vicinity of blue area and various other sectors of Islamabad. In this case, 23 firms had shown their interests for purchase of land, however, in sheer violations of laid down rules, CDA selected only few of them against these precious commercial plots.The Board decided to close two investigations due to lack of incriminating evidence, first against Mian Muhammad Arshad Saleemi, ex-Chairman and other Directors of United Agriculture Cooperative Corporation Ltd. In this case the accused persons were alleged embezzling funds of the corporation to the tune of Rs 8.65 million; second against Muhammad Iqbal Khan, ex-Commissioner Income Tax where the accused person was alleged for accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.
