CM Shahbaz chairs Cabinet meeting on sugar supply today
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has called an emergency meeting of the provincial Cabinet to ensure the sugar supply in market at Rs 40 per kg today. In a meeting held on CM house, the administration briefed the Chief Minister about the arrangements made to ensure the sugar supply in markets. CM directed the officials concerned to implement the Lahore High Court (LHC) orders. CM will put the court decision before the Cabinet in todays meting after which the governments strategy will be devised in light of the Cabinets recommendations. Earlier, conflicts cropped up between Punjab government and sugar mill owners after the LHC ordered to sell sugar at Rs 40 per Kg. The Punjab government deployed police at several sugar mills whereas mill owners refused to negotiate with the government. The sugar mill owners said that the Punjab government previously fixed a price of Rs 45/Kg without consulting them and when they were ready to sell it at that price, the LHC set the price at Rs 40/Kg without hearing their point of view. The mill owners also vowed to go to the court instead of talking to the Punjab government after LHC decision.
