NEW DELHI (Dunya News) – Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered to Tihar Jail after the Delhi High Court rejected his request for an extension in cheque bounce cases.

Known for his comic roles, Yadav has appeared in numerous hit films including Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Hungama, Dhol, Chup Chup Ke, Phir Hera Pheri, and Kal Ho Naa Ho, earning acclaim for his versatile acting.

According to Indian media reports, the High Court on Wednesday dismissed Yadav’s plea for additional time to appear before jail authorities, following which he presented himself on Thursday at Tihar Jail.

A jail source said Yadav appeared before authorities at 4 pm, and the standard legal procedures will now be carried out.

Earlier, Yadav had been ordered on February 2 to appear by February 4, but his lawyer requested a one-week extension, stating that he had arranged Rs 50 lakh for repayment.

Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma dismissed the request, saying there was no basis to grant relief.

Rajpal Yadav was previously sentenced in April 2018 to six months in jail and a hefty fine for failing to repay a loan, though he was granted immediate bail. In June 2024, the High Court had temporarily suspended his sentence, provided he took “serious and genuine steps” to reach an amicable settlement with the lender.

Reports indicate that Yadav had borrowed Rs 5 crore from a businessman to produce a film. When he failed to repay, the businessman filed the legal case that led to his arrest.
