Iconic singer recorded over 28,000 songs during his career

MUMBAI (Web Desk) - Legendry playback singer Mohammad Rafi’s 43rd death anniversary is being observed today (Monday). 

Born in 1924 in Punjab, India, Rafi's remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming a music sensation perfectly showcases the essence of perseverance and talent. Rafi also spent his early days in Lahore’s Bhati Gate inside the walled city. He has a huge fan following in both India and Pakistan. 

He passed away on July 31, 1980 but his melodious songs remain evergreen and popular even today. 

Over the course of a career spanning almost four decades, Padma Shri awardee Rafi sang more than 28,000 songs for Indian music industry.

Bollywood legends Asha Bhosle, Sonu Nigam, Kishore Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Raj Kapoor, Lata Mangeshkar and Dilip Kumar always showed great reverence for Rafi.

Throughout his singing career, he received one National Award and six Filmfare Awards. In addition to almost every Indian language, he sang songs in many other languages.

Rafi succumbed to heart attack on July 31, 1980, after having recorded his song with legendry composer Laxmikant Pyarelal.

The iconic singer ruled the Hindi film industry during the peak years of his career and enjoyed a strong fan following due to his unique voice. He sang for every Bollywood's biggest stars of his time.

His song Chaudhvin Ka Chand Ho helped the legend win his first Filmfare Award.

His evergreen songs including Kya Hua Tera Wada, Baharo Phool Barsao, Parda Hai Parda and Dil Ke Jharoke Mein are still fresh even after five decades.
