NEW YORK (Web Desk) - Fans of "Twilight" can rejoice as Lionsgate Television is developing a new television series based on Stephanie Meyer’s bestselling book series. The popular film franchise, which grossed over $3.4 billion worldwide, made Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner household names.

According to sources, the new series is in early development and Sinead Daly, who has previously worked on "Tell Me Lies," "The Walking Dead: World Beyond," and "The Get Down," will be writing the script for the show. It is not yet decided whether the series will be a remake of the books or a new adaptation, but Meyer is expected to be involved in the adaptation process.

The studio plans to develop the project before selling the rights to potential buyers. Wyck Godfrey and former co-president Erik Feig of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group will act as executive producers for the show. The timing of this development coincides with the recent announcement that the Harry Potter series is in the early stages of development for a television adaptation.
