Rahat, manager pay fine, free to leave India

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his manager Maroof Ali who were fined Rs 1.5 million each for carrying undeclared foreign currency have paid their fines and now the restriction of staying in India till the completion of probe has been lifted.

Rahat was arrested at the New Delhi airport for carrying foreign currency of worth $124,000. However, he was released after the assurance of Pakistani embassy in India but he was not allowed to leave India till the completion of investigation.Rahat and his manager, who were charged under the Customs Act were fined Rs 30 lakh to get their passports and other documents back. Rahat Fateh Ali told an Indian newspaper that Pakistani artists were not allowed to get opened their bank accounts in India.
