Indian veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar received first Swarbhaskar award in the memory of music maestro Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. She started her career in 1942.

This is my great honour that I received the award on the name of such a great singer (Pandit Bhimsen Joshi). This is my good fortune that I received the prestigious award. His voice is immortal, said Mangeshkar. Eminent classical dancer Sitara Devi presented the award to Mangeshkar with memento and cash gift of Rs 1,11,161 ($ 2,437.74).After the death of music maestro Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pune Municipal Corporation declared the Swarbhaskar award, which was firstly presented to Mangeshkar. Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, who has recently passed away on January 24, 2011, was recipient of the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, had enthralled music lovers with his renditions of Hindustani classical music.
