Moot on cultural heritage from today
The federal capital has completed arrangements to celebrate cultural week in Islamabad from Jan 1.
ISLAMABAD:- Talking to media, Lok Virsa’s executive director Khalid Javaid informed that the event is being held under the aegis of Federal Ministry of National Heritage & Integration in collaboration with Lok Virsa (National
Institute of Folk & Traditional Heritage) at Garden Avenue, Shakarparian from 1-7 January 2013.
It is a gift to the people of Pakistan from their democratic elected government on the occasion of New Year.”
The idea of the event has been conceived by the Federal Minister for National Heritage & Integration Samina Khalid Ghurki, which shows her vision to the promotion and projection of Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage, he added.
Explaining the concept of the event, executive director, Lok Virsa apprised that Pakistan Week actually aims to create unity and harmony among the nation through a cultural perspective. “The country at present needs to be
united and re-introduced as a nation rich in heritage, blessed with harmony, accommodating different cultures, creeds & colours. It would also showcase to the outer world the true, peaceful and harmonious face of Pakistan”, Khalid Javaid maintained.
The major focus of the 7-day event is on Potohar region through depiction of its culture and traditions. Representative pavilions of all federating units – Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir by way of presenting their arts, crafts, indigenous folk heritage and folk music would also enhance the beauty and landscape of the federal capital for a week.
The other features include artisans-at-work exhibition with demonstration of skills by master artisans and craftspeople from all over the country including remotest and far-flung regions, song & dance ensembles, folkloric performances, traditional cuisine, an exotic craft bazaar, traditional floats representing all federating units, installation of entrance gates on highways & busy roads, decoration and beautification of different chowks and roundabouts on various themes, stage plays, on-the-spot activities for family & children and prestigious opening and closing ceremonies.
The cultural ceremony will formally open on 1 January 2013 and end at January 7, 2013.
